Ken joined Mercer & Hole in 1979 and was admitted to partnership in 1981. A private client partner, he has managed a team which advises mainly individual taxpayers, including specialist areas such as Lloyds Underwriters and those who are not resident and/or not domiciled in the UK. He headed up the private client department for many years and this led naturally to developing expertise in wider areas such as trusts, charities and investment business. Following the general tightening up of investment business regulations, Ken has gained the coveted G60 qualification in relation to pension transfer work.

Ken has wide experience of personal financial planning, including wills and inheritance tax planning, also in relation to the provision of accounting and taxation advice for trusts and charities. Pulling all of this together has enabled Ken to provide a “single adviser” point of reference for valuation of business interests in divorce and other instances of severing business relationships.

He is a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner and a founder member of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners. He is a Director and Company Secretary of Mercer & Hole Trustees Limited, our wholly-owned Trust Corporation.

Ken trained in the City of London and was admitted as an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales in 1972 and became a Fellow in 1979. During his Articles, he developed a natural empathy with private clients and chose a career in taxation and qualified as a Member of the Institute of Taxation in 1974. Post qualifying, he spent three years with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) as a tax manager.

Outside of the office, his main interests are in serving Rotary and Scouting.
